Indestructible

Fluctuat Nec Mergitur

Rocked by the waves but does not sink

I recently learned the motto for the city of Paris. It is quite poetic, given that Paris is my soul city and just has that emotional gravitational force over me that is difficult to put into words (you can read more about that here). The latin motto, Fluctuat Nec Mergitur, was originally used by the boaters of the Seine. It was eventually adopted as the coat of arms for the City of Lights, accompanied by a motif of a ship bouncing on a stormy sea. It is a powerful message that vividly suggests resilience, courage, and inner strength.

It has been no secret that I have suffered unimaginable loss and heartache this past year. My world has been rocked, yet here I stand indestructible and stronger than I ever thought I could or needed be. Now, I will wear this motto on my heart; no matter how rough the waves continue to toss me, I will never sink.
