There’s something incredibly nostalgic about this time of year; I become overly excited to continue old traditions and create new lasting memories. For as long as I can remember, I’ve gone to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin to carve. It’s the perfect way to jump-start the upcoming holiday season, and I look forward to it every fall.
Even though October is almost over, it seems like California is in full protest mode that it’s fall. We are having a bit of a heatwave, but thankfully it was a “cooler” day (still in the high 70s) when we decided to go. And to true Ashley form, I still wanted to dress for the season without putting myself at high risk of overheating. For that reason, I stuck to layering a sweater over a short dress, which is my go-to move for situations like this. There’s no way sandals would’ve worked for this activity, so I wore my favorite black booties. I may have been hot, but I felt all the fall vibes.

This is our second year going to Tanaka Farms, and as long as we live in Orange County, we will continue to visit every year. It’s a bit more expensive than your average pumpkin at the grocery store (Tanaka is priced at $0.99/lb), but it’s a whole experience! There is a barnyard exhibit/petting zoo, wagon rides, a little corn maze, and a sunflower field, not to mention the endless pumpkins. We made sure to get there early in the morning to beat the heat and crowds. Our little excursion started off with the farm animals, which we thoroughly enjoyed. After a quick jaunt through the maze and checking out the sunflowers, we picked out the winning pumpkins. We brought home these twenty pounders, which we had a blast carving while listening to spooky music.

I love keeping up these kinds of traditions with David, all the while making our own new ones as a family. Just because it’s just the two of us (for right now), doesn’t mean we can’t partake. There’s no age limit to having fun and indulging in the festive season. Halloween is upon us, which means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, and I’m so ready to keep all the holiday excitement going!
xo,
Ashley

You forgot to mention football 😉
